Mr. W. Hosie, of the staff of the Waitara post office, has been transferred to New Plymouth. Mr. R. E. J. Mawson, of the central district school of instruction, Trentham, has returned to camp after spending a few jdays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Mawson, Wellington. Flight-Lieutenant Ward Phelan, of the Royal Canadian Air Force, is visiting New Zealand. Flight-Lieutenant Phelan is a nephew of Mr. C. R. Weir, New Plymouth. to whom he and Mrs. Phelan. paid a brief visit during the week-end. Mr. W. P. Nichol was last night appointed a member of the North Taranaki Council of Primary Production as representing the Federation of Labour in succession to Mr. E. Kenny who resigned through illness. Messrs. J. C. McDowall, chairman and L. W. Delph, secretary of the Taranaki district council of the Royal New Zealand institute of Horticulture were added to the North Taranaki district Council of Primary Production last night. Dr. Malcolm Gray, heart specialist, Christchurch, has been appointed second in command of the Seventh Field Ambulance in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. . For the last 14 years Dr. Gray. has been cardiologist at the Christchurch hospital. He has also had an extensive private practice. A decision to send a call to the Rev. P. Gladstone JHughes, of Auckland, was unanimously reached at a congregational meeting of St. ^John's Presbyterian Church, Wellington^ The charge became vacant on the departure of the Rev. J. R. Blanchard, Adelaide. The Rev. Gladstone Hughes has been minister of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Auckland, since February, 1935. After a distinguished career at the University of Wales and later at Cambridge, Mr. Hughes was a master in secondary schools for seven years before entering the minist.ry. In 1921 he entered upon a ministry at Timaru that proved to be conspicuously successful in the 12 years of his charge. In 1933 he went to England with his wife and family and was in charge of a church near Newcastle-on-Tyne for a year. He returned to New Zealand in October, 1934.
