MAORI ELDER DIES

POUWHAREUMU TOI Pouwhareumu Toi, one of the rnost respected elders of the Maori people in South Taranaki, has died. He was a member of the Taranaki Maori Trust Board. Of recent years known as one of the leaders of his race, Pou achieved fame in his youth as a champion wrestler in the Cumberland style. competing with much success at sports meetings in the 80's and 90's of last century. Two of his opponents were Dan Sheehan and Chris Hunger.
