WOMEN'S DIVISION

Lepperton: Mrs. H. E. Blyde presided ove rthe September meeting. Mrs. Crosby and Mrs. Coxhead were welcomed as new members. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs. E. Hellier jnr. who is in hospital. Members were asked to bring gifts for Christmas cheer for the lepers and gifts of clothing for refugees. The social part of the afternoon was in charge of Mrs. E. Hellier snr., Mrs. C. Hellier and Miss Hellier. A paper hat competition was won by Mrs. R. Allen 1, Mrs. G. Hall 2. A pencil and paper competition was won by Mrs. R. Paul. A wandering shilling was won by Miss Edna Hall. A date loaf competition resulted: Miss' Doris Hellier 1, Mrs. R. Paul 2, Mrs. E. Snowball 3. A competition for a bloom resulted: Mrs. E. Snowball 1, Mrs. Gordon Hall 2 and 3. Mrs. H. B. Lepper kindly , acted as judge. Mrs. B. Anderson and Miss Anderson, who have left tiie district to live at Waitara, were made presentations from the branch. Hostesses were Mesdames C. J. Oliver, W. Cartwright and C. Staples. Auroa: There was an attendance of 40 at the September meeting, which was presided over by Mrs. W. Richardson. Four new. members were welcomed. Mesdames Richardson, Duff and Everitt. who were delegates to a Taranaki executive meeting of the W.D.F.U. during the month, reported on the proceedings. It was decided to buy more wool for distribution among members, the articles knitted to be for minesweepers. At the next meeting Christmas parcels will be packed for the minesweepers. It was arranged to hold an evening at the home of Mrs. C. Muggeridge to assist leper funds. During the afternoon £8 10s was raised for the W.D.F.U. Spitfire fund by means of a bring and buy stall. There were six entries for the afternoon's competition, a sultana cake, the winners being Mrs. Everitt 1, Mrs. Brown 2, Mrs. Hughes 3. A competition for a dinner was won by Mr. Rowe. Mrs. Duff received the lucky cup and saucer, and a further competition was won by Miss L. Haworth. Mrs. Granville and junior members were hostesses.
