FARMERS' TRUCKS
heavy traffic fees
"The council is providing a wonderful service in arranging for the inspectors to go out into the country and weigh farmers' trucks, thus saving the farmer the necessity for coming-. into town to have his truck weighed, and at the same time advising farmers as to the fee that he would be liable for under the easiest basis of payment," remarked Cr. W. R. Moir at the meeting of the Inglewood County Council yesterday, when the position regarding heavy traffic license fees on farmers' trucks was being reviewed. Nine farmers had taken out heavy traffic licenses during the past month, making a total of 33 to date. Thirteen of the 24 that had previously taken out a short-term license had renewed it, but so far 11 had not. Actually the position was that two farmers had taken out licenses to the end of May, one tc the end of February, 19 to the end of November, and 11 had not renewed their licenses. The treasurer , Mr. T. A. Jones, stated that so far £47 17s had been received in fees, and he estimated that the total for the year would be £115, of which £10 would come from . the June-Augusl quarter, £50 from September-November, £35 from December-February, and £20 from February-May. Farmers generally were co-operating very well, remarked* the inspector, Mr. A. G. Jenkins. During the discussion it was made clear that a farmer could cart his neighbour's milk if necessary, a councillor stating that there was some misunderstanding about the position among farmers.
