HERD SIRE PROBLEM
SOLUTION AT NGAHIWI
CHOICE HAWERA OFFERING. I The next most interesting and important event for dairy farmers is the purchasing of a new herd sire. Ngahiwi, the stud of W. J. Freeth, Pukearuhe, North Taranaki, naturally comes at once into their calculations, for this stud has produced many sires, whose claughters have led the herd testing association in many parts of New Zealand. Under C.O.R. Ngahiwi has bred and tested 95 heifers that, on their first calf, did an average of 4781b fat. A team of 20 from Ngahiwi, comprising 11 cows and nine heifers, produced under group test 482 lb fat in 290 days, being amongst the leading groups, if not actually the leading group, for number in New Zealand. To show that Ngahiwi is still breeding them right, the four-year-old Ngahiwi Fawn Beauty is leading New Zealand in the Jersey merit list for June. Numerous Repeat Orders. Pride of place in Ngahiwi's operations is the number of repeat. orders received year after year from all over the Dominior,, showing that Ngahiwi strains carry on anywhere. Recent buyers mclude Mr. Legg. Huntly. A coal miner for about 30 years, Mr. Legg, absolutely 'off his own bat," has a splendid farm on which he is milking 60 cows. He has returned for his fifth Ngahiwi-bred herd sire. Mr. Fulton, Pahiatua, whose herd of 50 cows averaged from 3901b to 4171b fat for five years, also visited Ngahiwi recently to purchase his« fifth herd sire there. Mr. Olson, Norsewood, another wonder in the dairy farming world, was back again at Ngahiwi last week. Breeders from the South Island, .including Nelson, Kaikoura and Invercargill, also purchased Ngahiwi hera sires last year, two of them being repeat orders. Many other valued clients were also recent purchasers, mcludmg Mr. H. E. Chapman, Rahotu. Hawera Fair Offering. Ngahiwi's offering this year at the Hawera Jersey club sale, which is being conducted by the Farmers' Co-op. Organisation Society and Newton King, Ltd. in conjunction, comprises a selected line of ten young bulls of real class. They include a two-year-old son of Oxford Lily Grey, v.h.c., 8511b fat, silver and special gold medallist, recognised as one of the greatest Jerseys produced in recent years, sons of the imported Dei sign's Noble Jester. New Plymouth show champion, whose daughters, as second | calvers, have produced up to 541b fat i per month on grass under group test, | and sons of Everest Beauty Valiant,^ who I is by the imported sire Vagabond, C.B.B. j from Nita Beauty, 8591b fat, winner of two silver and special gold medals. | To satisfy themselves farmers should ] procure a catalogue and carefuliy study j the wonderful breeding of the Ngahiwi ■ entry.
