WATERSIDERS’ STRIKE

NEGOTIATIONS PROCEEDING. My Telegrwh—Press Assn.—Copyright. Melbourne, Nov. 25. . Although the compulsory <onferenee in connection with the watersiders’ no. overtime strike reached no agreement the efforts at conciliation were not entirely fruitless. As an outcome of the offer by Mr, Justice Beeby, it is still open for tho Watetsidcrs* Federation to have its jlaime heard by the court on. condition that the men resume normal working forthwith. Tlie Federal committee of management is at present meeting in Melbourne. It is considered probable that the eom-' : mittee will yet fall in with the suggestion of the judge to restore harmony on the waterfront and instruct its members in the various States to resume work.' ■ / ■ Received Nov. 26, 9.30 p.m. Melbourne, Nov. 26. A complete deadlock has arisen in ihe - witersiders’ dispute, and there ie no possibility of a settlement this week-end. There is no likelihood, however, of a direct extension of the dispute or any hold up! of dipping. Received Nov. 26. 11.45 p.m. Sydney. Nov. 26. The overtime strike has greatly de« layed inter-Siate shipping, and unless a settlement is effected the congestion will become acute within the next fortnight. The Ulimaroa was scheduled to sail for Auckland at 3 p.m., but had not completed then, so that she was delayed over two hours.
