ADMISSION TO PROBATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christ church. Noy. 20. ■ Probation was granted to William Francis Halliburton, of Ashburton, when he came up for sentence to-day lor receiving £152 18s lid and failing to account for it and for stealing £504 15s lid from Mrs. M. S. Arthur. Mr. Justice Stringer said the ease had given him much anxiety. His Honour believed Halliburton had not intended dishonestly to appropriate the moneys and would have repaid them, except for tho failure of his business, resulting from tho slump in land values. The judge imposes! special conditions: That he pay the cost of the prosecution within three months from date and thereafter that ho make restitution of the full amount as soon as possible.
