“A JOINT AND SEVERAL”
APPEAL FOR GUARANTORS.
Auckland, Nov. 15.
With the other directors of the New Zealand Bacon and Meat Packing Co., the three Auckland provincial directors —Joseph Barugh, " Hamilton, E. C. Banks, of Matajnata, and James Patterson, of Ngarsawahia (deceased) — put their signatures to a joint and several guarantee for £50,000, when further capital was required to enable the company to extend its sphere of operations. The extension of the business was not a success, and the company had to go into liquidation. The three directors named were called on to find £17,000, which with bank interest to date totals £21,000. An appeal for funds to relieve the losses they sustained when the guarantee to the Bank of New Zealand was called up is now being made. The appeal is in the hands of a committee appointed at a public meeting in Hamilton, and during the last fortnight 20,000 circulars have been distributed throughout South Auckland and Bay of Plenty districts asking suppliers of all co-operative dairy factories to subscribe.
