BRIXTON WINS BY EIGHT RUNS. A ONE-INNINGS VICTORY. A narrow victory by eight runs on the first innings was secured, by Brbrtou on Saturday, when tire team made 78 against the bowling of Bell Block at Bell Block. Most credit for the win must go to D. Irving, who knocked up exactly half the score being before bowled by Jeffries. The only other club mate of his to reach double figures was Gilmore, with a tally of 15. For Bell Block A. Giddy carried his bat for a useful 30. With the exception of R. Sampson (11), the other batsmen contributed single figures. Bowling honours of the day went easily to Gilmore with the remarkable average of seven wickets for 20 runa. He dismissed the first four men for a total of 23 runs, the eighth for one, and the last two for none. A. Giddy was the only batsman who survived the ordeal. Longstaff’s average was two for 10. while for Bell Block G. Giddy took five for 26 and L. Giddy two for 14. Brixton made 05 in a second strike. F. Andrews contributed 37 and McCaul put on 20. L. Tarurutangi. defeated Egmont Village by 22 runs in a one innings match played at Tarurutangi. The home side made 52 runs against the visitors’ 30. FRIENDLY GAMES. In a friendly game at Moturoa during the week-end, Bell Block defeated Tiger Town by an innings and 10 runs. Bell Block scored 60 runs and Tiger Town replied with 30 and 20. Though they marched on to the field of battle encouraged by martial airs from their instruments, the Regimental Band could not prevail against Avenue Road during the week-end. The Road made 71, whereas the Band was good for onb 41. PRIMARY SCHOOL MATCHES. SATURDAY MORNING'S PLAY. An eight wickets’ victory was secured by the Fitzroy School over Westown on Saturday morning. Westown made 27 and 25, and Fitzroy made 44 and 13 for two wickets. In Westown’s, first innings McClune took nine wickets and Bedford one, and one wicket fell to each of the same bowlers in the second innings. O’Donnell and Page divided the bowling honours for Fitzroy. Central defeated High School by 58 runs to 20 in a one-innings game. For the winners Simpson made 15 and Shaw 13. Palmer and Clegg were the best of the School bowlers, and Hughes and Simpson for Central. Moturoa had a two-point win against Vogeltown. The former made 71, to which Carr contributed 21, Woods 20 and Lewis 10. Gray was the most successful of the Vogeltown bowlers. Vogeltown’s total amounted to 45 (Gray 13, Carroll 10). Carr, Woods, and Lewis shared the bowling honours for Moturoa. Waitara gained a t'hree-point win in a match with West End. The latter batted first and made 19, to which Waitara replied with 50, of which 20 were made by Ewens. In their second strike West End made 41, the score being well distributed. Waitara made the runs required for a win without the loss of a wicket. Mackinder and Thomas were the best of Waitara’s bowlers and Morris and Gayton shared the honours for West End. Inglewood secured a two-point win over New Plymouth Convent.
