OLD BOYS LOSE TO TECHNICAL. Technical College defeated Old Boys on the first innings in a match played at Tukapo, the scores being 115 runs to 29. Old Boys batted first and Roeh, with 12, was the only batsman to reach double figures. For Technical College Sartcn easily topped the score with a well made 52. He was finally caught by Baunton off Roch after sending the ball to the boundary on half a dozen occasions. Hughes made 17 and McKeon 13 for College. Bowling for College, McKeon took five wickets and Kinsella three. Harris dismissed four men for Old Boys, Gray three, Roch two, and Baunton one. In their second strike Old Boys made 57, Moorhead and Baunton each contributing 10. WAITARA’S EASY VICTORY. "Victory by an innings and 11 runs was Waitara’s after their game with the' visiting Council B team. Waitara made: 59, and the best the New Plymsuth cricketers could do was two tallies of 20 and 28. Jones batted patiently to get the highest score of 24 for Waitara. Hawkons, the- not out man, was runner-up with, nine runs. Council’s first essay produced scores no higher than fours, and the, second time Marrett was the best with 12 to his credit. Waitara’s "bowling naturally showed to advantage. Five wickets for six runs was Hawkins’ average for Council’s first strike, and five wickets for 13 runs was C. Jones’. The second time Hawkins took three wickets for two runs, Jones six for 10, and I. Taylor one for 11. Jones took five wickets for 31 runs for Council and Hainblyn five for 15. SCHOOL DEFEATS BAND. School proved themselves 121 runs better than the Regimental Band in a two innings game at Tukapo. Batting first School made 28 (Budd 15), and Band replied with 26 (Drury 9, McEwen 7). Then School made 144 (Stace 38, Brown 36, Halligan 23 and Budd 11). Band’s second effort produced only 25. WESTERN DIVISION. COUNCIL A HAVE INNING'S WIN. Council A defeated Okato by an innings and 30 runs in a game at Tukapo. Council made 118 for four wickets, cf which A. Lewis accounted for 70 before being bowled by Rutherford. Hall made 19 not out. Okato’s first strike brought 51 runs, of which Rutherford made 24 and Brooke 10. In their second effort they were dismissed for 37, Rutherford (10) being the only double figure, scorer. C. Hodges took six wickets and Hall four in Okato’s first innings, and the former dismissed eight men in the second. Kinsella and Hall accounted for tl’.e other two. Bowling for Okato, Corbett and Brooke were given l.b.w. decisions. Coleman bowled to Spedding, who was caught by Corbett, and Rutherford knocked down Lewis’ wiekets, AVENUE ROAD WINS BY DEFAULT. -Avenue Road won by default from Western Park in the niatch to have been played on Saturday. SCHOOL A HAS EASY WIN. School A defeated New Plymouth by 179 runs to 33 in a one-inning’s match at the Tukapo grounds. Watson contributed most towards the win with his 68, which included a six and eight fours. The next highest score was 29, made by R. Batger, who retired, his tally including a six and three fours. Beavan (25) and Palmer (10) were the other batsmen to reach double figures. New Plymouth batted first and Hodges was the only one to make a stand, his score being 17. Six was the next highest tally, and four batsmen were dismissed for ducks.
Palmer made the best bowling average for School with a record of three wickets for four runs. Allen was next with three for 12, and then followed Watson, two for 9, and Batger, one for 7. For New Plymouth Tippens took one wicket for 9 runs, Bell one for 11, and Jones two for 30. In a second strike, New Plymouth made 57 runs for six wickets.
