DAVIS CUP CHALLENGE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Sydney, Dec. 21. Paterson states that, owing to injury to Tilden’s finger, he will not be a party to challenging tlie United States for the Davis Cup next year. Mr. Hicks, secretary of the Australian Association, states that the association alone will decide whether a challenge shall be issued. A decision will be arrived at after February. Received Dec. 21, 8.45 p.m. London, Dec. 20. The Davis Cup conference adopted the zoning system, under which the preliminaries will be played in American and European sections, the competitors declaring which zone they desire to enter. It also agreed that in the event of a dispute between any two Davis Cup nations it be referred for arbitration by an independent third nation, and if the latter falls the nation holding the cup will give the final decision. GROUPING OF COMPETITORS. London, Dec. 20. A conference of delegates from Davis Cup countries adopted the zoning scheme, dividing competition into American and European groups.
