WESTOWN SIDE SCHOOL
BREAKING-UP CEREMONY. Iho AV estown school was crowded with happy children and many parents on the occasion of the annual prizegiving ceremony yesterday. Mr. F. A. Lee, chairman of the Frankley Road school, presided, and associated with him were Mr. W. Haddrell and Mr. A. V. Sims, headmaster of Frankley school. Prior to the distribution of prizes a short musical programme was rendered by the pupils. After the ceremony, Mr. Sims remarked that the committee did not insist upon full attendance, but issued a prize to all who were absent less than five times. This was a. good thing, for a child often begged to go to school when in the interests of its health it should be kept at home. A change had been experienced in the infant department, and yo ng pupils were now allowed a great deal more freedom than formerly. A stranger, entering unexpectedly, would, no doubt, imagine pandemonium had broken loose, but the apparent confusion was really quite orderly. The children were happy and, after all. when dealing with infants, a happy and contented environment was of more, real advantage than rigid discipline. He called for three cheers for Miss M. Mouatt and Miss E. Warren, the two teachers, and wished them and the children a happy Christmas and jollv holidays. The prizes were presented by Mr. Lee and during the proceedings the following programme was rendered by the pupils: Song. "Sweet and Low.” school; recitation, "Little Romp,” Naomi Gredig: recitation. Leslie Lander; song, Loris Kahui and chorus; recitation, ‘Two Crossing Sweepers,” Bertie Oli- , vev- - itation, “Message of the Flag.” MV-kcv Morrison; song. “AA 7 hen the Great Red Dawn is Shining,” Doreen Lobb and chorus.
