MR. SMITH AND ELECTION NIGHT.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln your issue of Saturday last appears a letter over the signature of Mary Collins, in which the writer obviously works off a little of her disappointment at the result of the recent poll by having a tilt at myself. I am entitled to conclude that when penning her few lines this lady carefully brushed aside her Christian professions and stifled somewhat her full acceptance of the Ninth Commandment. To err is human, to forgive divine, and I beg to offer to your correspondent my forgiveness.—l am, etc., SYDNEY G. SMITH.
