ECHO OF THE ELECTION
(To the Editor.) Sir, —As two of the interjectors in Currie Street on election night, please allow us space to disassociate ourselves with the explanation given by Mr. S. G. Smith on Wednesday evening to his supporters, in an endeavor to explain away his wild utterances on I the night oU the 7th. Mr. Smith has apparently drawn on a vivid imagination and says that "Interjectors” hurled insults at his family, and this we wish, as far as our interjections were concerned, to emphatically deny. Neither did we hear Mr. Smith’s family mentioned in any form whatever, and we leave it to the large body of electors, "intelligent" and otherwise, to bear out our statement. Apparently the loss of 1000 votes unsettled Mr. Smith, and one or two good natured interjections completed the trick. Mr. Smith styled himself a "sport,” but over-loked a golden opportunity cn the 7th of giving us a lesson in sportsmanship. Of the remarks passed to both candidates, Mr. Bellringer had the greater cause for complaint. However, he took all interjections that came bis way with a smile, and in a sportsmanlike spirit, which must hate gained many admirers. It may be a mistake to Interject (when a successful candidate is making a speech), and if we made this mistake, it was an honest mistake, and we won’t admit It. However, Mr. Smith has been elected, and we must make the most of It. Perhaps when the numbers go up on the next occasion, Mr. Smith will be able to demonstrate himself the great sport he claims to be. In conclusion, we trust that in the heat of Parliamentary debates, or on the clang of the division hill, if Mr. Holland should find Mr. Smith in opposition to him. that he will not interject, and so cause, as we unfortunately did, Mr. Smith’s judgment to be warped.—We are, etc., TWO OF THE INTERJECTORS.
