MATCH AT WANGANUI. FIRST DAY’S PLAY. LAMBERT’S BRIGHT DISPLAY. By Telegraph.— Press AssociationWanganui, Last Night. The touring English cricket team commenced a match here to-day in fine I weather and on a fast wicket against the minor associations. Titchmarsh, Tyldesley and Freeman stood out of the visiting team. The home side batted first, but made a mediocre showing against the accurate length bowling, and were out for 129. Lambert was the only batsman to score with confidence. With an hour to play the Englishmen lost one wicket for 96. Gibson and Calthorpe batted attractively, although the latter was twice dropped in the slips. The match will be concluded tomorrow.
