SUNK IN THE MERSEY. TEN OF CREW DROWNED. By Telegraph.-—Press Aasn.— Copyright. London, Dec. 18. The -steamer Smerdis fouled the an chor chain of the City of London in the Mersey. The chain tore a great hole in the Smerdis, which sank in two minutes. Ten out of the crew of 18 were drowned, some, who were below, never reaching the deck. A TUG SUNK. MOST OF HANDS RESCUED. Washington, Dec. 18. A message from Sault St. Marie, Michigan, states it is believed 29 people were drowned through the sinking of the tug Reliance on Lake Superior last Wednesday. Seven survivors reached port in a small boat after terrifying experiences. A blizzard blew them ashore \n a lonely part of the Canadian wilds. The party’, which included the captain s wife, suffered terribly from -’Old and hunger, but managed to reach the railroad. Received Dec. 19, 7.1 a p.m. New York, Dec. 18. A Sault St. Marie wireless message reported that two tugs picked up twenty-three survivors from the Reliance, including -the captain.
