SECONDARY SCHOOLS’ MATCH. Christchurch, Last Night. The Heathcote-Williams shield match, between the Napier Boys’ High School (challengers) and Christchurch Boys’ High School (holders) commenced to-day in perfect weather. The visitors made a very poor showing, being disposed of for 20 in the first innings. Six was the highest Individual score, while six batsmen failed to open their accounts. Cromb took six wickets for 6 runs, and W. Moffat three for 13. Christchurch replied with 293 (Mortlock 155, Burrows 12, W, Moffat 15, Blitcliff 32, Skipworth 23). The match was specially Interesting because Kaponga, being 33 behind on the first innings, put on 87 for five wickets and declared, leaving Hawera 54 to get to notch a three-point win by wickets. For Hawera, Hamond made 45 not out, and for Kaponga, J. Barclay made 36 and A. Betts 33 i not out. Manaia A and Kaponga A played a friendly game, which resulted in a win for Manaia by 33 runs on the first innings. For Kaponga, Baigent 18, Harrison 17, and Grace 12 batted well, and for Manaia, Dr. Maunsell 45 and McKay 10 held the honours. Kaponga’s second innings closed for 113. Baigent 31, Howcroft 12, and Harrison 17 batted well. At closing-time Manaia had lost one wicket for 18 runs.
