STRATFORD.

MASTERS BACK AGAIN. SUBSTANTIAL MAJORITY. OPPONENT’S FINE SPIRIT. (By Wire—Special Reporter.) Stratford, Last Night. Mr. R. Masters was reiurned for the Stratford seat by a majority of 316, as voting stands, with one return from Mangaere yet to come in. The voting at present is: Masters 3499, Hine 3179. There are 186 absent voters’ permits issued, so that the final result cannot be altered. Details:' Bine. Masters.

(Continued on page 6). Throughout the day voting proceeded steadily. In the evening the returns were screened in the King’s Theatre and on a screen across the street from the theatre balcony. A crowd began to collect early and cheered or hooted returns as they were flashed on the screen. The utmost good feeling prevailed throughout. By the time the last returns were in there was a large crowd on Broadway. I Mr. Masters and Mr. Hine addressed the gathering from the balcony of the theatre, and were each given a good hearing. Cheering prevented Mr. Masters from speaking for some time. He thanked the electors for placing him in the proud position. One of the most pleasing features was that on each occasion he had increased his majority, and this was an indication that they were satisfied with his services during the last three years. He was generous enough to be generous to his opponent ; to-night they were all his constituents, and he called for cheers for Mr. Hine, which were lustily given. Mr. Hine endorsed Mr. Masters’ remarks and congratulated him on his success. Mr. Masters had his work before him, and it wm up to them to assist him. While the was on, let them fight; but when it was over, let them do their best for the district. He hoped to be able to do something for the district outside Parliament. He had hoped to do good work in Parliament, but it was denied him. He congratulated Mr. Masters and thanked his own committees for their help. At his call cheers were given to Mr. Masters.
