THE GENERAL ELECTION.

(To the Editor.) Sir.—Quite a lot has been written and expressed in your columns b>’ various writers against Mr. Smith, who in the last two contests has been the people's choice to represent the Taranaki constituency in Parliament. I question if there is an elector in the district who can deny the good work performed by Mr. Smith for all classes of .-the- community during the past terms of office, and his unbiassed judgment in strenuous problems of the present day period, unless such denial Is promoted by extremists and biassed claims who are attempting to unseat a representative who has proved himself by full and efficient language, and his truly conscientous vote to uphold freedom of sacred rites of constitutional creeds of the peoples who serve under the Union Jack of old England. I ask your readers to note Mr. Isitt’s speech referring to the Marriage Amendment Bill Hasard 39, page 610, quoting: "There is not an Anglican Bishop in this country; there is not a synod, that does not declare that If the Bill Is passed in its present form it means trouble." Possibly and even probably the majority of electors in this constituency will agree that Mr. Smith used common sense and proper discretion when I - oting fnf a delay in hasty legislation. Mr. j Bellringer seems to be at discord with the Bishops, synods, and Mr. Isitt, and puffed up fu 1 ! of hope, notwithstanding the proved good qualities of Mr. Smith. Thursday. December 7, will prove who Is then to be the people’s representative to serve them with credit and renown. It has tn he either an unimown quantity or a well known quality.—l am, BRITISH EMPIRE FREEDOM. (Published by arrangement.)
