TE TEMERE DECREE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice Mr. Masters is still endeavoring to explain away his attitude on the Ne Temere Decree question, and, after all, it would be expecting too much for him to say that he had made a ‘mistake—had been a bad boy and wouldn’t do it again, but as Lincoln has said: "You can fool all of the people some of the time, you can fool some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." Mr. Masters stated that he only voted for referring the matter back to the committee for consideration. The facts are, Mr. Masters voted to set up a select committee of the House to go carefully into the matter and bring down a report. This committee sat and received evidence from all sources, and then recommended the legislation, which Messrs. Masters, Smith, Isitt and Co. voted against by referring the matter back. Most people will surely see that Mr. Masters did not agree with this legislation, hence his action in voting to refer the matter back to the committee, to bring down a proposal that would suit his Roman Catholic supporters. He stated that he had given careful consideration to the proposals, was definitely opposed to the same. Fancy Mr. Masters backing his little "tin pot” opinion against men like Sir Francis 8011, Hon. McGregor, Hon. Downie Stewart, and those men of brains and principles who comprised the select committee of the Rouse! No, Mr. Masters, you are mighty cunning, hut remember what Lincoln said, and admit your vote.— I am, etc., ANTISMOKESCREEN. (Published by arrangement.)
