(From a Correspondent.) The need for a larger hall for the district was strikingly illustrated on Friday night by the large attendance at the Weetown hall on the occasion of the school concert, which was held in aid of the school prize fund. The teachers of the school, Misses Warren and Monatt, had done wonders with the children, who performed very creditably, the audience thoroughly appreciating the items. Mr. Dickinson, a member of the Frankley Road Committee, congratulated the teachers and the pupils on the splendid performance. The programme was a varied one. The majority of the items were encored, the dances and concerted items being ■ particularly good. The programme comprised pianoforte duet. Ray and Leslie Lander; songs and choruses, “Baby Bunting.” Pat Birmingham and company; “Tulip Time in Holland,” Loris Kahui and company; dance, “Our Golliwog.” Betty Garcia; song, “Maori Land.” Braves of the Tribe, who did a spirited liaka; solo, “Roses.” Loris Kahui; recitations. “Tit for Tat,” Allen Ewart; Kipling’s “If,” Mavia Sqinre; “Big Steamer,” Bruce Reed; “Little Romp.” Naomi Gredig; “Last of Dad’s Old Breeches.” Leslie Lander; “Block City,” six infants; cojnic song, “Vagahond Song.” Lander; dance of the Spanish Beggar Maid, Doreen Lobb; scena. “A Japanese Love Song,” Choo Lee (Winnie Haylock). Maid of Japan (Mabel Lobb) and company; “Indian Sentinel Dance,” Marjorie Sole; duet, “The Lilac Tree,” Doreen Lobb and Nita Garcia. Several action sonpp were also rendered in fine style by the children. including “Joys of a Country Life,” “Topsy Turvy,” “Underneath Hawaiian Skies,” and “Good-night.” Miss Warren played all the accompaniments. Alter the conclusion of the concert supper, provided by the parents of the children, was handed round, after which an hour or two was spent in dancing.
