BABIES’ DAY.
HAPPY TIME AT KAWAROA. RESULTS OF BABY SHOW. All perambulators were wheeled ifi the direction of Kawaroa Park on Saturday afternoon, when the New Plymouth Plunket -Society provided an enjoyable outing for mothers and babies in connection with their annual appeal for funds to help the Plunket movement in the town. On the first day £l3B was collected, and on Saturday this amount was augmented by over £7O, chiefly as a result of stalls, so that all together it is expected to clear well over £2OO net as a result of the two-day effort. The weather was delightfully fine on Saturday afternoon and a large crowd gathered at the park. Chief interest centred in the baby show, for which 150 entries had been received. The work of judging proved very arduous with so many entries, taking several hours to perform. Dr. Hazel Allison, of Waitara, and Plunket Nurse Sell, of Waimarine, did the judging, and the Plunket Society are deeply grateful to both these ladies. Results: — Baby under 3 months (prize donated by Mrs. Burgess): Lorna Hazel 'Smith. Baby girl, 3-6 months (prize donated by the 'Crown Studios): Yvonne Bertrand. Baby boy, 6-12 months (prize donated by Mrs. Wade): Ronald Payne. Baby girl, 6-12 months (prize donated by Mrs. R. Cock): 'Sylvia Honnor, Huirangi. Baby Iboy, 12-18 months (prize donated by Mrs. Newton King): lan Hamilton. Baby girl, 12-18 months (prize donated iby Mi's. Evans): Rhoda Hare, Oznata. Baby boy, 18 months to 2 years (prize donated by the Oakley Studios): Jack Dorney. Baby girl, 18 months to 2 years (prize donated by Mr. Jos. Swainson): Margaret Morey, c Waitara. Best Plunket baby, i.e. breast-fed at 9 month's (prize donated by Mrs. Weston) : Jillian Gooder. Best fbaby fed on humanised milk at 9 months (prize donated by Mrs. T. M. Avery): Maurice Shepherd. Fitzroy. Best twins (prize of £1 Is donated by Jlerald and Budget): Ellen and Christine Weir, Waitara. The stall-holders were: Works stall: Mesdames Stuart Russell, Jenkin, Shaw and N. King. Toy stall: Plunket Nurses Peterson and Castles (in charge), assisted by Mrs. Gillespie, Mieses M. Shaw and Gillespie. Sweets stall: Misses K. Slmw, V. John's, P. Greig, and C. Alexander. Egg stall: Mrs. Valentine. Icecream stall: Mrs. G. Loveridge. Soft drinks stall: Messrs. Loveridge and Jenkin. Snow-ball: Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Avery. Rooster,X/Mr and Mrs. Roebuck. The afternoon tea arrangements were in the hands of the ladies of the Kawaroa Park 'Society, -while a number of games were in charge of High School boys. Valuable work was done by girl guides, boy -scouts and High School boys, and the committee wishes to thank them for their help.
