Mr. Hugh Wilson, of the Eastern Extension Caible 'Co., and lately at Cocos Island, is on a short ‘holiday visit to New Plymouth: The death is recorded of Mr. Bennett, father of Mr. S. Bennett, of Kaupokonui, which took place at Kaupokonui on Thursday, after a long illness (says the Star). Mr. Bennett had'reached the age of 81 years. He was a gentleman who was very highly respected by all who knew him. Commander Newenham de la Cour Cornwall, R.N.R., who is in command of the liner Otaki, at present lying in the stream at 'New Plymouth, spent yesterday ashore with his brother, Mr. R. Cornwall, ami Mr. L. C. Sladden, his brother-in-law. It is some years since Commander Cornwall last visited New Plymouth. Nurse L. R. Baker, of New Plymouth, proposes to give up her private hospital | which has been carried on, first in Cour- ■ tenay Street, and then in Liardet Street, for the last 16 years. All her friends will wish her good health and happiness in her well-earned rest after her strenuous labors. Mr. Henry Nevinson Harrison, one of the best known settlers in the Wanganui district, died yesterday in his 85th year (says a Press Association telegram). He arrived in New Zealand in 1840. He went back to England to be educated and, on returning in 1855, he managed Sir Donald McLean’s property at A'kitio. Then Mr. Harrison took up the 'One Tree Hill farm at Fordell, where he resided till nine years ago, when he retired to Wanganui. He was a steward of the Jockey Cluib from its inception and was patron at the time of his death.
