INGLEWOOD.
DOMAIN BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Domain Board was held on Tuesday evening. The arrangement concluded by the clerk to enable the Territorials to use the football reserve for rifle practice or a miniature range were confirmed. The reserves committee was empowered to engage the necessary labor for cutting and removing trees from the overcrowded plantations in Trimble park. BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held on Tuesday. The overseer was directed to report the cost of all new work, such as kerbing and metalling, at least once a month; also to furnish a schedule of new work required in the borough. It was decided to comply with the request of the Department of Labor when issuing permits for scaffolding or excavation work within the borough. The arrangements made by the Mayor with the Borough Council of New Plymouth for erection of sub-station on the electric supply line were confirmed. The clerk was directed to write to the Public Trustee regarding the £3OOO loan authorised by the recent poll of the ratepayers. CONVENT SCHOOL CONCERT. The Convent School matinee on Thursday afternoon was a most marked success and the hall was crowded. The performers were all in good fettle, and everything went without hitch or delay. For such a programme to be put through by amateurs is an achievement that speaks volumes for their teacher for the careful training they have been under. Such a programme admitted but few encores; in fact they were withheld by request, except for the violin duet by Miss G. ' Leach and Mr. C. Nicholls, the dance sum- | mer idyll by Miss McAUum, violin solo I Pastorella by Mr. C. Nicholls, and the two part song “Hark the Goat Bells” by senior pupils. GENERAL ITEMS. t Inglewood once more has good cause to be satisfied with the succeaej of its representation at the ITawera, show, and we congratulate Mr. A. A. Ward, of Rugby Road, on his well earned good fortune in winning Lovell and Christmas’ 100 guinea challenge cup for hi® own property, aa winner three times in succession, with the most points in the Jersey classes. His separate wins all help to uphold the reputation of this district, as do also the successes scored by Mr. H. B. Lepper, with some very fine specimens of the same favorite breed.
The euchre party and dance on Thursday evening, following the Convent school matinee of that afternoon, attracted a very good attendance in spite of the stormy weather. For the euchre party, no fewer than 21 tables were occupied under Mrs. Evans’ charge. The prizes were won by: First, ladies (a 51b box of tea, presented by Mrs. Fairweather), Mrs. Uhlenberg; second (251 b bag of flour, donor, Mr. J. Sutherland), Mrs. F. Spurdie. First, gentlemen (Iton coal, donor, Mrs. Capon), Mr. F. Spurdie: second, gentlemen (251 b flour, donor, Mrs. South combe), Master Rex. Lamb, on a. draw after a tie with Mr. T. Lindsay. The dancing floor was well filled, and to music supplied by Miss orcbwtra. with Mr. R. L«tt. in
the role, of M.C., the dancers had a most enjoyable time. The triangular rifle match, arranged to be fired by teams representing the Inglewood Defence Rifle Club, old timers and territorials, has, time after time, been postponed on account of ‘ bail weather, and it has now been decided to make no attempt to carry it out until more settled weather conditions prevail.
