The weather was warm and the wicket fast for the cricket match between Victoria and England. The at- | tendance was three thousand. The Gov-ernor-General and the State Governor were present. MacL'aren won the toss. His team made an indifferent start, three wickets falling for 37. Wilkinson and Chapman were then joined in a splendid partnership, adding 106 for the fourth wicket. Chapman was impressive and eager, Wilkinson placing the ball well after lunch. Wilkinson batted for a hundred and seven minutes and hit two boundaries. Chapman batted for a hundred and twelve minutes and hit four i boundaries. Brand’s play was streaky MacLaren received a Warm reception. He was lucky at the start. The bowling varied, being strong in attack, while the fielding was keen. The Victorians batted for an hour. Gibson, who has a. fine length, took three wickets for 20 runs.
