WAITARA.

HARBOR BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Waltara Harbor Board was held on Friday last. Mrs. Beckibessinger applied for a revaluation of her lease in McLean Street and advised that Mr. L. H. Sampson had Ibeen engaged as arbitrator on her behalf.—The board appointed Mr. H. M. Lund to act on their behalf. The secretary reported that goods had been stolen from the shed to the total value of £5 Bs. The police had been informed and the constable had demonstrated how easily the lock on the door could Ibe picked. Further precautions had been taken to secure the shed. It was resolved to call for tenders for the shingle rights on the west and east beaches. The secretary reported that 'a drumhead type of beacon had been obtained I for use on the north wall for the guidance of fishermen. The building of a concrete slip at the boat shed was let to Mr. E. Knight for the sum of £25.

GENERAL. The proceeds of the Clifton Football Club’s ball for the two nights reached to £3l, and though the expenditure is in the vicinity of £5O, concessions have been liberally made, and it is thought that the club will only lose about £6. Three judges have been appointed in connection with St. John’s Rose Show to judge the kitchen garden section. They will act independently and forward the returns to the secretary, who will total the points of the three returns. It will thus be seen that the judges themselves will not know the winners until the names have been disclosed by the secretary. On Monlay evening last the Retailers’ Association held a meeting to make the appointment of a night watchman. Seventeen applications were before them and Mr. E. L. Clare was selected.
