KAPONGA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) All cricket matches in this end of the province were postponed last Saturday on account of the rain. The weatne.r has been very broken for some time now, and is interfering considerably with the sowing operations on rhe farms. Guy Fawkes Day was celebrated in the time-honored fashion by the children. some of whom were fairly successful in their canvass. Most of their earnings were spent in fireworks for the evening's fun. Mr. O. Hawkon, M.P. for the district, gave a political speech hero last week, and had a fair audience. He answered a number of questions and received a vote of thanks and. confidence. In spite of the unseasonable weather the milk yield appears. 1n bo keeping up very well. Quite a number of farmers with whom the writer has comp in contact are well ahead of last year s figures in butter-fat returns. This fact, and the good prices for butter and el)po6o. are tending to make the dairyman pleased that he has lived through the hard times. Air. A. O. Casey, who has boon on a visit io Auckland, returned homo on Saturday night. Quite a number of parents and children went into Eltham last I hursday to attend the Convent School’s sports Tn spite of the weather one and all en joyed themselves.
