CATHOLIC CARNIVAL.
A number of children’s races were run at Taumata Park, Eltham, on Thursday, in connection with the picnic and sports arranged by the Sports candidate’s committee of the Catholic Queen Carnival. The officials for the occasion were as follows: Starters, Messrs. D. Malone and W. S. Ileyes; judges, Messrs. C. Crowley, Kilpatrick and A. Hansen; stewards, Messrs. Long, Hickey, Bourke, Massey, Daley, Hook and Hunt. Following are the. results of the races for children over nine years of age:— Boys.—Under 14 years: D. ronaglen 1, W. Bourke 2, J. Fitzhcrbort 3. Under 12 years: B. Brady 1, D. Morrissey 2, J. Murphy 3. Under 10 years: L. McCarthy 1, S. Conaglen 2, O. Brown 3. Girls.—Under 14 years: M. Longford 1, J. Fever 2, Q, White 3. Under 12 years: W. Morhagen 1, A. Kowalewski 2, L. Taylor 3. Under 10 years: M. Loader 1, O. Burke 2, M. Cowell 3. Boys’ championship: R. Rothery (Stratford) 1, W. Bourke (Manaia) 2, W. Tenman (New Plymouth) 3. Girls- championship: E. Hicks (New Plymouth) ], M. Langford (Manaia) 2, M. Fever (Opunake) 3. Relay race: Stratford School 1, Manaia School 2, Manaia School 3. A, banner was awarded the school gaining the greatest number of points in the various races, and was won by Manaia with 22 points, New Plymouth being second with 14, and Opunake third , with 13. A sheep weight-guessing competition resulted in a tie between Father Phelan (133y g lb) and Mr. T. Quin (133 Db the correct weight being 1331 b.
