CARROT GROWING COMPETITION. NORTHERN DIVISION. A meeting of the executive of the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs (Northern Division) -was held on Saturday morning. Present: Messrs. A. E. Washer (chairman), W. B. Grant, J. IT. Allen, W. Hall, F. W. Sutton, A. P. Lister, A. V. Sime, J. A. Kurth, 'H. Trimble, H. A. Stratford, R. Syme, and H. Johnston. An apology for absence was received from Mr. A. H. Read. Mr. Grant reported that Holmes’ improved seed had been unobtainable for the carrot growing competition in sufficient quantities to supply even the Northern Division so Matchless White had been supplied to the schools. CALF REARING COMPETITION. It was decided that the judging of calves in the calf rearing competition be done on similar lines' to the judging in the Southern Division last year. The following gentlemen are to be asked to act as judges.—Messrs. F. Andrews, W. McKenzie, and F. Sarten. The grouping of the schools and judging the charts was left in the hands of Messrs. Johnston and Syme. Messrs H. Olsen, A. J. Luxton, and H. C. Simpson are to he asked to accompany the judges to decide any matter that may arise regarding dairy type. APPOINTMENT OF SUPERVISORS. The appointment of a supervisor for Albert Road was left in the hands of the chairman and Messrs Grant and Syme. Messrs. Corbett and Minch in are to be asked to act as supervisors at New all Road. The supervisors appointed for the calf-rearing competition are to bo asked to act also for the root growing competition. This was decided on in view of a misunderstanding that had arisen in one district where no supervisor had been acting for the latter competition. POULTRY COMPETITION. If was reported that 1R entries had been received in the poultry competition and sittings of eggs had been distributed to the competitors. The difficulty of obtaining broody hens had prevented a greater number of intending competitors from entering but members of the executive considered the number of entries very good. The members of the Poultry Association had been very good in supplying sittings when requested. The judging of the poultry was left in the hands of the Poultry Committee. PRIZE FUNDS. With a view of augmenting the. prize funds it was decided to suggest to the outlying groups that social evenings be organised on the occasion of the distribution of prizes at the schools. At the same time the work and objects oi-the chib are to be explained by a member of the executive. It was also suggested ; that the root-growing and calf-rearing prizes be not distributed until the show prizes are ready, the whole of the prizegiving being done in one evening.
