INGLEWOOD.
THE LATE MR. GUDGEON. (From Our Own Correspondent). The late Mr. George Gudgeon, whoso death at Inglewood last week was bincere! v regretted 'by a large circle of friends in widely separated parts of the Dominion, was a native of Bedford, England, and had reached within one month of completing his 49th year. He came to New Zealand about oO years ago, and had spent most of liilife since then in Taranaki, chiefly in the Inglewood district, where he worked at his calling of cycle and motor mechanic for several years- At the age of 28 he married Miss Agnes Classon, of Hawera, who, with her eight children —three daughters and five sons—survives him. A keen follower of out-of-door manly sports and a man of genial temperament, George Gudgeon was always a welcome figure on any cricket ground, golf links, bowling green, or other fields of sport, and 'had proved himself more than ordinarily proficient as an exponent of those pastimes, especially cricket and golf. He did not seek prominence in public matters, but filled his part as a thoroughly good citizen, ever willing to help forward any scheme that he judged to be of general 'benefit to the community. That his mode of life had been appreciated by his neighbors, and that he had won' their respect, was amply testified to by the large coni nurse, representing all walks of life, that followed his remains to their last resting place in the Inglewood cemetery on Wednesday.
