DAMAGE BY FIRE.
COUNTY COUNCIL OFFICES BURNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Greymouth, Nov. 6. A fire at 4.25 this morning destroyed the County Council offices, Gresson Street. The official documents in the safe were the only things saved. The origin o-f the fire is unknown. The building was very old and uninsured. FOUR SHOPS GUTTED. Waipawa, Nov. 6. A block of four shops, owned by A. E. Jull, was gutted at midnight. The fire had obtained a good hold when discovered, but the brigade made a splendid save of the adjoining properties. The building was insured in the National office for £3OO, London, Liverpool and Globe. £350. Shopkeepers were insured as follows: Mrs. Wells, confectioner, £5O in the National; Mrs. Knapman, restaurant, £l5O in the Norwich Union; Turner, baker, £250 in tne Alliance; Mrs. Bott, fancy goods, £3OO in the Yorkshire. i The electoral office next to Mrs. Bott’s had a narrow escape, while the contents were badly damaged by smoke and water. None of the records were destroyed.
