NOMINATION INCIDENTS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Nov. 5. Mr. Lloyd George’s first unopposed election during his 33 years in Parliament occurred on his wife’s birthday. His nominators included a centenarian, who is still working as a joiner. Mr. Gwilyn Lloyd George, son o-f the ex-Premier, who is contesting the Pembrokeshire electorate, received news- of the birth of a son in London while he was filling in his nomination paper. There were 117 nomination papers, each with ten signatures, presented on behalf of Colonel Nicholson in Petersfield. The nomination of Viscount Curzon (eldest son of Lord Howe) was signed entirely by war widows receiving pensions.
The threatened eleventh-hour flood of Lloyd Georgeites to oppose the leading Conservatives who had destroyed the Coalition did not eventuate. Sir Joynson Hicks had an unexpected walk-over in Twickenham owing to the sudden illness of Mr. Rhys, Mr. Lloyd George’s secretary, who intended to stand. Colonel Malone, who intended to stand as a Communist for Luton, was not nominated. Mr. Devlin was unexpectedly nominated against Mr. Leslie Scott, sitting Unionist member for the Exchange Division of Liverpool. Mr. Guy Aldred, described as an anti-Parliamentary Communist, nominated for Shettleston, declares that, if elected, he will not take his seat. General Spears was returned unopposed for Loughborough, a Labor op- ' ponent arriving too late with his nomination. The election nominations include Mr. Percy Harris, formerly of New Zealand. as Liberal candidate for Bethnal South. WOMEN CANDIDATES. THIRTY-THREE NOMINATED. Received Nov. 6, 7.25 p.m. London, Nov. 6. Thirty-three women have been nominated for the general election, of whom fourteen are Liberals, three National Liberals, seven Conservatives, eight Labor, and one Independent.
