EMPIRE EXHIBITION.
USE OF EMPIRE TIMBER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, November 2. Mr. M‘Mahon, replying to Mr. Horton’s letter on the subject of British timber, says the impression seems to prevail that vast quantities of foreign timber are being used in the British Empire Exhibition. Out of £300,000 already spent on construction less than £lOOO has been spent on materials not produced within the Empire, and that only in order to avoid delay in the construction of the stadium. AUSTRALIA’S ATTITUDE. Melbourne November 3. Mr. Hughes announced that the Commonwealth would not contribute towards' the expenses of the Empire Exhibition unless preference was given to Empire foodstuff’s and products. It would be a reflection on the Empire to say it did not produce what was required. It would also be untrue.
