ATHLETICS.

TECHNICAL COLLEGE SPORTS. SEVERAL RECORDS SMASHED. Bright sunshine prevailed yesterday for the holding of the New Plymouth Technical College annual athletic sports, held on the Sports Ground at Pukekura Paik. The various events were keenly contested, there being altogether 91 competitors (56 boys and 35 girls). In the boys’ events, four new records were created, the senior mile being run by W. O’Byrne in 5 min. 18 3-5 sec. (previous record, 5 min. 32 sec.), the senior hop, step and jump going to K. Elgar, with 38 ft. 2 in. (previous record, 37 ft. 9 in.). Lile improved the junior long jump record from 14 feet to 15 ft. 2 in., while R. McFarlane beat his previous record of 28 ft. in the junior hop, step and jump by 2 ft. 1 in.

The officials (who are to be complimented on the successful way they conducted the gathering) were:—Boys’ events : Judges, Messrs. G. S. Crimp and Les. Andrew; starter, Mr. A. L.
