RACING IN AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 24, 10.5 p.m. Melbourne, Oct. 24. Molyneux was slightly injured when racing on Saturday, but Is expected to resume work on Thursday. J. Munroe rides Gilray in the Cantala Stakes. SOFT FOR THE CLUBS. Big races come cheap to English clubs, owners still supplying the whole of the prlzemoney for some. For instance, the value of the last Sandown Park Eclipse Stakes was guaranteed at £lO,OOO, but, as there was a surplus of £614 over that sum from owners’ forfeits and sweepstakes, the race aid not cost the club a penny. It would, of course, had to have made up any deficiency below the advertised amount. In Australia, when the A.T.C or V.R.C. announces a race of any stipulated sum, it means the club is giving that much in added money, and forfeits and sweepstakes are added to it. There is £1569 added to the Eclipse Stakes of 1924, but though it is not run until July, there is a liability of £ll5 attached to any horse left in a/ter the first Tuesday In January of that year. Racing under English conditions would not appeal to the richest of Australian owners, most of whom are hopeful of covering expenses each year, even if they do not actually make money out of the game .
