NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. IMPROVING THE COURSE. Af a meeting of the committee of the New Plymouth Golf Club, held on Tuesday evening, the report of Mr. Arthur Ham, the Wellington professional, regarding the bunkering of the course, was considered, and it was decided to complete a portion of the scheme at once. Mr. T. G. Thompson, chairman of the ground committee, reported that this would be posslb ! e owing to the very generous action of several club members who had offered to defray the cost of the work at the various holes. The president (Dr. Walker) had offered to bunker Nos. 1 and 16: the vice-president (Mr. C. H. Burgess), No. 9; the club captain (Mr. W. C. Weston). No. 4: Mr, C. H. Weston, No. 11: Mr. J. G. Barthrop, No. 13: and Drs. Leatham, Home, Wade and Milroy, No. 8. The alteration to No. 18 will he taken in hand by a working-bee. It Is hoped that It will be possible to complete the work within six weeks, so that the course may be in order for March next. PROFESSIONALS’ TOURNAMENT. In reply to the Now Zealand Golf Council, it was decided to apply Tor the three days’ professionals’ tournament and to point out that April 12. 13 and 14 would be a more suitable time than the dates suggested, March 22, 23 and 24, as after the autumn rains the greens are generally in good order. The proposal is that £l5O will be given in prizes, of which the local club will require to provide nearly half. LABOR DAY MATCHES. There will be no competition to-morrow, but a full day’s golf has been provided for Monday (Labor Day). A medal match to complete the Standish Cup competition and to find the winners for Mr. C. H. Burgess’ trophies will be played in the morning, and a four-ball match In the afternoon. Entrance fee. Is each match. There will also he a ladles’ medal match, and driving and approaching competitions. The medal match players should start after the men’s morning match and before 12.30, and the driving and approaching competitions will take place after the men’s four-ball match has loft. Entrance fees: Medal match, Gd: driving and approaching, 3d each (re-entry allowed on payment of another fee). Continuous putting competitions will he held all day for both sexes; cards 3d each. Players from any other clubs are cordially invited.
