MISS SHAND MAKES RECORD. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Vancouver, Oct. 18. Miss Shand (New Zealand) broke the world’s record by swimming 440 yards, free style, in 6 min. 14 2-5 sec. (Miss Gwitha Shand (Christchurch) and Miss Pauline Hoeft (Auckland) recently left New Zealand to compete against the champion American lady swimmers at Honolulu.) Received Oct. 19. 8.15 p.m. Honolulu, Oct. IS. In breaking the 440 yards record, Miss Shand swam spectacularly, holding a fast pace to the 400-yard mark, and then sprinting. She was not winded at the end.
