TARANAKI HOSPITAL BOARD.
THE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Hosptial Board was held at New Plymouth yester day. Owing to the absence of the chairman (Mr. M. Fraser), from whom an apology was received owing to indisposition, Mr. A. H. Halcoinbe was voted to the chair. There were also present: Messrs. J. Andrews, H. R. Cattley, E. Gllihour, S. Vickers, M. O’Btteii, J. Young and J. Sutherland. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. J. Capper. MEDICAL REPORT. The. medical superintendent. (Dr. E. A. Walker) reported for September: Number of patients admitted, 85; discharged, 99; died, 5; remaining in hospital, 81; highest number for one day, 96; dally average, ‘87.03; operations, 54. The month, lie said, found the staff busily occupied, there being a fair proportion of heavy cases among the patients. Seven cases of diphtheria and three of scarlet fever were admitted during the month. One ease of pulmonary tuberculosis left for treatment at Otaki. MATRON’S REPORT. The acting-matron (Miss K. Barnitt) reported tliat the following had returned from holiday leave: Nurses Field, Dew and Stephenson. Nurses Warnock and Kilbride are on holiday leave. Nurses Macßae and R. Thomson were off duty, owing to sickness, Nurse A. Thomson, having completed her probationership, had been placed on the permanent staff. Nurses, Rea, Field, Kilbride, Merriman, Grant and Robinson had completed a course in Invalid cooking. OTHER REPORTS. .. . The matron of the Rongeatea Home (Mrs. A. Bayly) reported that everything had been progressing very favorably; supplies had been good, and the discipline excellent. There had been one admission, there being now in the home a total of 37 (males 31, females 6). The dispenser (Mr. C. F. B. Perrin) reported that the ambulance-driver (Mr. P. H. Bower) had left, Mr. E. Slfleet being engaged to fill the vacancy. Nurse McFadgen (Opunake) reported that she had attended d. total of 11 patients during the month. Nurse Fraser (Urutl) notified having attended three cases. . Tlie farm manager (Mr. W. C. Noble) reported that the dairy herd of 16 cows had produced 13,958 lb of milk. The weather being very settled, the catle had done very well. The valuable cow, "Tukapa Flora,” had died after calving. GENERAL. It was decided to ask the architect for an estimate of cost of renovating and painting the old hosplal block. Accounts am< inting to £1277 2s 8d were passed for payment.
