A furious vendetta had raged intermittently between two Corsican families named Paoletti and Sarti. living in the village of Ollivese, near .Maccio, and 70 men, 20 women and several children had been killed during the last 50 years. A peaceful settlement was at last reached by the engagement of a 16-year-old Paoletti girl to a 20-year-old Sarti. The family later discovered the girl had flirted with other boys in the village, and a heated discussion resulted, o,ld Sarti stabbing a Paoletti to death. Finally three more were killed and four severely wounded. The ‘vendetta is now in full swing again, extending to the whole of 01live&e, which is split into two factions.
