NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB.
HAWERA TO HAMILTON TRIAL.
The New Plymouth Motor Cycle Club met last night, there being a good attendance, over which Mr. L. A. McHardic presided. The New Zealand Auto Cycle Union no* titled that a meeting of the council ol the union would be held at Marton on Wednesday, October 18.—It was found impossible to send a deelgate to the meet-
mg. In reference to the reliability trial the. Hawera Motor Cycle Club suggested a meeting of three representatives from each club. The object was to arrange a twodays’ trial between Hawera and * Hamilton. The secretary explained that the trial was the outcome of a suggestion at tho recent conference. The Hamilton Club Would assist by taking control on the other side of the Mokau River. It was felt that a road test was the only true indication to the buying public of the merits of the different machines. There would be no expense incurred by the club, but the trial would be self-supporting, as support was I anticipated from members of the trade. A j 50-guinea gold cup had been offered to the club for a 24-hour reliability trial some years ago, and now, with the assistance of,• Hawera and Hamilton, the conditions allotted to the cup could be fulfilled, and application had accordingly been made. The idea was to make the cup for teams competitions and not for individuals. The trials were to be held between Christmas and New Year, and would be open to any riders. Riders at Palmerston North and Feilding were very keen. The opinion of the meeting was in favor of the scheme, and it was resolved to invite the Hawera Club to confer with the New Plymouth Club at a picnic to be held at Lepperton on Sunday. In the event of this arrangement not being suitable the club decided to send three representatives to Stratford to meet the Hawera representatives, Messrs. Goodacre, Townsley anil F. Smith being appointed delegates. The New Plymouth Sports Committee wrote in reference to the queen floral.-feto at the sports ground on December 2 for raising funds for improving the grounds. The assistance of the club was solicited in the direction of nominating a queen. Messrs. A. L. Humphries and Little waited on the club in connection with the matter. Mr. Humphries explained that more funds were needed, as it was hoped to make the ground the best in the Dominion, especially by providing proper accommodation, shower baths, etc. The committee aimed at raising £lOOO. It waa hoped to get all sporting bodies to nominate a queen and on the day of the crowning a procession and ceremony would be held at the park. Besides the queen carnival a floral fete would be arranged, prizes being given for decorated vehicles, etc. The speaker stressed the asset the park was to the town and appealed for earnest consideration for the scheme. Mr. Littla also spoke. The chairman thought that by combination with another body the club could assist by nominating a queen, and after various points had been elucidated by tho deputationists it was decided to take part in the scheme. It. was further resolved to ask the sports committee to combine the club with some other body, preferably the Jockey Club.
