THEFT AT SEA.
SEAMEN SENT TO GAOL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. William Benjamin McDonald, Richard McOvoy, and Herbert Samuel B. Dutton, members of the Mahia’s crew, were charged at the Police with the theft at sea of 16 bottles of whisky from the cargo. McDonald was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, McOvoy to two months and Dutton to two months, and a similar sentence (to be cumulative) was imposed on a second charge of the theft of 12 bottles. Accused were ordered to pay for the whisky.
