ELECTRIC POWER.
THE TARANAKI BOARD. TWO SCHEMES DISCUSSED. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Electric Power Board was held at Eltham yesterday. Present: Messrs. H. G. Carmen (chairman), Geo. Sangster, W. V. Harkness. W. H. Were, C. E. McGuinness, and T. R. Anderson. An apology for absence was received from Mr. C. J. Belcher. The engineers, Messrs. Climie Bros., submitted details, in accordance with instructions, of modifications of the 20,000 h.p. scheme at Tariki, and also of a new scheme on the Patea river near Skinner Road. The schemes were discussed in committee, and it was reported that the board had decided to inspect the Tariki and Patea schemes on Wednesday next before arriving at any definite decision. FINANCIAL MATTERS. The Bank of New Zealand wrote, with reference to the board’s application for overdraft accommodation, stating that the head office had sanctioned a limit of £2OOO on the security of a pledge to the bank of a rate being struck over the power district to cover the advance. Regarding temporary accommodation up to £5OO, the manager stated that he had been asked to take a joint and several to guarantee the amount. It was decided to give a joint and several guaranteeing £750. DAIRY COMPANY’S OFFER. Messrs. R. J. Knucky and C. White, accompanied by Mr. Moss, waited on the board as a deputation from the Eltham Dairy Factory Company offering to supply power to the extent of 90 kilowatts to the hoard. The deputation was heard in committee, and it was decided that when the dairy company places a definite scheme before the board it will be considered. RATEABLE VALUES. A return supplied by the Vainer-Gen-eral (Mr. F. W, Flannagan) showed the value of the rateable property within each constituent district of the Taranaki power district as follows: Inglewood County.—Capital value £517,289, unimproved value £269,520, value of improvements £247.769. Stratford Countv. — £2.383,703, £l,528.058 and £855,645. Eltham County.— £1,799,635, £1,083,701 and £715,934. Eltham Borough.— £428,913, £lBl,922 and £246.991. Total values of the whole district: Capital value £5,129.540, unimproved £3.063.201, value of improvements £2.066,339. With these valuations in hand, the chairman said the board could go ahead with the estimates, and should have them ready for the November meeting. GENERAL. Mr. W. J. Tristram was permanently appointed clerk to the board at a salary of £350, this fee to cover the use of the office, equipment and office staff. Mr. B. H. Horner submitted details of his scheme for the generation of power near Stratford. The matter was considered in committee, and no further advancement was made. It was decided to retain the services of Mr. H. W. Climie as engineer in the meantime. The meeting adjourned until Wednesday morning at Stratford at 9 a.m.
