CLASSIC DANCER’S PLIGHT.
NOT ALLOWED LN AMERICA. VISIT TO SOVIET RUSSIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 2, 9.55 p.m. New York, Oct. 2. Isadora Duncan, an American-born classic dancer, who recently married Serge Essenine, a Russian poet, in Moscow, thus losing her American citizenship, was detained with her husband upon arrival here. No information is forthcoming from the immigration authorities why she was detained, but it was intimated that Duncan’s association with the Soviet Government and her very liberal views on social conventions might be the cause. It is understood the State Department requested her detention. The hearing will be held on Monday, at which Duncan may attend to show the authorities she is entitled to enter the United States, otherwise she will be obliged to return to France, whence she came.—Aus.-N.Z.
