A schoolboy, Betts, recently astounded the South African athletic world by sprinting 100 yards in 9 4-ssec., and covered a quarter-mile ir. 48 2-ssec. at inter-school sports. The British amateur record for the 100 yards is 9 4-ssec. and the world's record 9 3-ssec., for -140 yards the British record is 48 2-ssec. and the world’s record 47sec.
