MACLAREN ON TEAM’S PROSPECTS. By Telegraph.--Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Oct. 1. In an interview with a Westminster Gazette representative, MacLaren said most of his team were amateurs and too likely to adopt the sporting spirit. Chapman was almost certain to do well. Geoffrey Wilson had recovered from his operation and would be a most valuable field. Meeting McDonald should be all for good, for the batsmen needed experience of such redoubtable bowling. The practice of sending junior teams on tour was most valuable to future English cricketers. A picked team of young men was likely to improve quite 30 per cent, during the tour. Mr. MacLaren continued: “I am frankly funking playing with so little practice. It takes at least a fortnight to get accustomed to the bright Australian light. We are quite prepared for a bad start, and if so I shall tell the team there is no cause to lose heart. We shall get on capitally socially, as good cricketers always do.” WESTERN PARK CLUB. At a meeting of the management committee of the 'Western Park Club last night it was decided to play a. match against a country team next Saturday. All members, senior or junior, who are able to travel, leaving town at 12.30 p.m., are asked to give their names to the secretary (Mr. C. Fairbrother) before 5 o’clock to-morrow evening. Messrs. Fairbrother, Robertson and Quickfall were appointed selectors of the team, and they will also make all arrangements for the match. It is hoped to play with all new members of the club.
