THE A.J.C. MEETING. SECOND DAY’S RESULTS. SPECIALITY WINS METROPOLITAN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Oct. 2, 8.45 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 2. The weather was fine, the going good and the attendance seventy-five thousand for the second day of the A.T.C. spring meeting. The racing created very keen interest, though there was not the same enthusiasm as on Derby Day. The Metropolitan Handicap winner was a surprise, notwithstanding Speciality’s third to Beauford and Gloaming on Saturday. Randwick enthusiasts previously knew the Doncaster winner as a sprinter only. Purser flattered a legion of supporters by a convincing run down the straight, but quickly fell from grace by a disappointing finish. No Surrender always had the steeples in hand, though Blue’s barraekers were confident when the latter joined No Surrender at the six furlong post. Tressayr sh-ned the best to date when challenging Cliffdale, but was not brilliant enough against the Newcastle representative. Cupldon returns to New Zealand with fewer admirers than when he left the Dominion. Results:— SHORTS HANDICAP.—Vodka 7.1, 1; Rostrum 10.0, 2; Alfort 9.0, 3. Thirteen starters. The weather is cloudy and cool after a brief hailstorm on Sunday. The Herald says there is no questioning the popularity of Beauford’s great triumph after a magnificent finish. Gloartilr.g made a wonderful run in the straight, but Wood's strategy in taking Beauford to the front took too much out.of the New Zealander. The Telegraph says: At the distance Gloaming looked a likely winner, but Beauford had been nursed by his experienced pilot, and stalled off Gloaming’s gallant attack. It was a great race, worthy of the occasion.
