LADIES AT PLAY. Manawatu championship, By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. The qualifying round of the championship of the Manawatu Ladies’ Golf Club was played on Saturday, in fine weather and on a good course. Results: Miss Beadel (Christchurch) beat Mrs. Orbell (Oamaru), 5 and 4. Miss Brandon (Wellington) beat Mrs. Tingey (Feildlng), 3 and 2. Mrs. Dodgshun (Otago) beat Mrs. Cook (Otago), 2 up at the 19th. Miss Wilson (Christchurch) beat Mrs. McCarthy (Otago), 3 and 2. Miss Bell (Wellington) beat Mrs. R. S. Abraham (Manawatu), 5 and 4. Miss Wright (Timaru) beat Mrs. Marchbanks (Wellington), 5 and 4. Miss S. Watson (Manawatu) beat Miss Snodgrass (Rotorua), 4 and 3. Miss E. Brown (Napier) beat Miss Achleson (Nelson), 1 up. In* a handicap medal competition, Mrs. Orbell, 83—7 —76, and Miss N. Johnston, 97 —21 —76, returned the best cards. The tealns’ match resulted: Manawatu A. (Miss S. Watson 88, Mrs. Collinson 94, Mrs. R. P. Abraham 91, Miss Moore 97—a total of 370), first; Wellington A (Miss Brandon 89, Miss Bell 88, Mrs. Marchbanks 92, Miss Marchbanks 102—a total of 371), second. The bogey competition was won by Mrs. Dodgshun (5), 3 up. NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. SATURDAY’S MATCH. A bogey handicap was played on the Waiwakaiho links on Saturday. The day was perfect and the course in splendid order. T. G. Thomson had an easy win in the senior grade, with a good card of 4 up, and A. H. Blennerhassett (all square) headed the juniors. The best cards handed in were: Seniors. T. G. Thomson (handicap 9), 4 . up. A. S. Hasell (5), 1 up. R. Renner (9), 1 up. A. W. Griffin (11), 1 up. F. S. Johns (2), 1 down. D. H. Smythe (7), 1 down.
