TEMPTATION TOO HARD.

CHARGE OF EMBEZZLEMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 21. Another case of the embezzlement of the funds of the Education Department has been before the courts. James Charles McGill Nutt, arrested in Sydney, was charged with having stolen various sums amounting to £272 last year. He was a clerk in the accounts section of the special schools branch, and it was his duty to attend to all banking accounts, and he had to withdraw or pay in money as the case might be. Accused told the police that temptation had come on him when hard pressed to provide a home for his wife, and it was more than he could withstand. He pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence.
