CHARGE OF INDECENT ASSAULT. By Telegraph.—Press Assncfatlou. Foxton, Last Night. At the Police Court to-day, a young man, Leonard Richard McAllister, was charged with alleged indecent assault on a little girl. He pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial. Bail was allowed in £lOO and one surety of £lOO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. ROTORUA VALUATIONS. Rotorua, Last Night. The Rotorua Chamber of Commerce has decided to protest against the excessive valuations by the Government Valuer of leaseholds, which the lessees wish changed to freeholds. A block with a7O years’ lease recently brought £2OOO and was assessed at £lO,OOO capital value. Another sold two years ago for £2OOO was assessed at £5400. The applicants have no right of appeal against the valuations, but the chamber is asking Mr. F. F. Hockly, M.P., to urge the Government to grant redress. TROUBLE AT DENISTON MINES. Westport, Sept. 22. The Ironbridge section of the Westport Coal Company’s Deniston mines was idle to-day as the sequel to the trouble with a trucker who, it is alleged, knocked off before time and was dismissed, the trucker having had a previous warning.
