TARIKI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The residents of Tariki were shocked to hear that an accident ending with fatal results had occurred in their midst on Thursday afternoon, near or on the (bridge over the stream known as the Waipukuiti. It appears that a Mr. Radich, a restaurant-keeper, of Inglewood, while returning from Stratford on his motor bike with side-car attached, in which his little 24-year-old son was riding, ce Hided with a wandering ca]f. Both father and son were thrown on to the metal road, the child receiving injuries which caused his death within a few minutes. The father was more or less severely shaken and the motor-cycle and side-car badly damaged. This is another example of the danger of wandering cattle and horses. A meeting of Mr. Hine’s supporters was held in the hall about a week ago. Mr. Hine was present. A committee to work for hirn and the Reform Party generally was formed. During the coming events in Tariki the school children's fancy dress ball, which is to take place on September 29, is just at present claiming the greatest share of attention. The youngsters are being well trained by their teachers, and, judging by the keen interest that is being taken in it by parents, children, teachers and others, a full house is pretty well asspred. The steam navvy, or road grader, belonging to the Inglewood County Council, is at present at work on some of the side roads in the vicinity of Tariki, and, according to the county local foreman’s ideas, is doing splendid work. Certainly from a “layman’s” point of view it seems to be a great labor-saver. The weather is still keeping very fine and dry, but as to its effect on the dairying industry opinion is so far somewhat divided.
